Alone

"I cannot lie."  

I was thinking of sad headcanons. Mainly one when child Knuckles wakes up on Angel Island alone. And for days on out he keeps asking the Master Emerald the same question every day, only to get the same answer each and every time. But he keeps asking because he thinks it's lying to him. Eventually he falls into a state of depression and stops eating and drinking, and just wonders the island for weeks just to see if he can find anyone. When he finally realizes that he really is all alone, it makes his depression worst and he tries to find a way out by trying to let his body die out on its own naturally from starvation so that he can be with his family.

Master Emerald decides that it was in its best interest to make sure Knuckles didn't die, so in order to preserve Knuckles life and get him to stay healthy and strong enough to protect M.E, it decides to wipe away his memory and recreate who he is from scratch, much to Knuckles dislike.

It fails a couple of times. But eventually, after alot of trial and error, Knuckles finally forgets everything. Which explains why he didn't remember what happened to his tribe.
